Just 2 ingredients and a couple minutes of your time are all that go into this super easy, best vegan cream cheese frosting recipe!
Two of my favourite cakes are carrot cake and red velvet cake- if we’re going for a top three list then good ole’ chocolate fudge cake is in there too, but I just love the combination of soft, moist cake with thick cream cheese frosting.
Thankfully, it didn’t take me long to come up with an incredibly simple recipe for vegan cream cheese frosting, and it’s super affordable to boot!
This recipe is perfect for frosting a huge variety of desserts as well as the usual suspects. Try it atop key lime cupcakes, pumpkin cookies, german apple cake or even banana bread!
Just a couple minutes of mixing and you are good to go with your thick and creamy goodness!
This recipe yields enough to generously frost a layer cake, or two sheet cakes- simply half the quantities if you have one sheet cake. Remember to let your cake completely cool before you start frosting!
Simply place both the confectioner’s sugar and non dairy cream cheese in a mixing bowl, and beat together until thick and fluffy.
What Cream Cheese Is Vegan?
Violife is a vegan cream cheese brand (get Violife cream cheese here), but you can also make your own vegan cream cheese recipe using just 4 store cupboard ingredients!
You can adapt this recipe by adding a teaspoon of vanilla extract and around 1/4 cup more sugar for a sweeter frosting. You can also make a vegan chocolate cream cheese frosting recipe by adding 1/2 cup cocoa powder and a little non dairy milk.
For a zestier citrus flavor simply add two teaspoons of grated orange zest for a vegan orange cream cheese frosting, and if you need more of a glaze texture then just thin the mixture out with 2-3 tablespoons non dairy milk and a a teaspoon of maple syrup, agave or corn syrup.
You can even make this frosting ahead of time and keep for one week in an airtight container in the fridge. This recipe is best served chilled and works great for piping too. Here it is- print the recipe card and pop in a folder of your best vegan dessert recipes for convenience.
- 8oz non dairy cream cheese
- 2 cups confectioner's sugar
- Pop the non dairy cream cheese in a mixing bowl and gradually sift and mix in the confectioner's sugar until thick and fluffy
